Ryanair announced a new route from Cork Airport to East Midlands operating four times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays using an East Midlands based aircraft, from 6th November as part of its winter schedule 2013/4 operating a total of 11 routes from Cork Airport. The carrier serves Liverpool, London Gatwick and London Stansted from Cork. Cork Airport Director Niall MacCarthy said "Cork Airport is delighted to welcome this new route to East Midlands with Ryanair. This is an opportunity to expand inbound tourism to the Munster region and also offers another gateway serving the city regions of Derby, Leicester and Nottingham. We wish Ryanair every success with this new route and look forward to further positive announcements over the next period." Aer Lingus announced it carried just over 1 million passengers in June up 3.1% lead by very strong growth of 17.2% in long-haul passengers carrying 116,000 passengers with a load factor of 94.5% up 2.1 points on 15.5% increase in available seat kilometers and revenue passenger kilometers increased by 18.3%. The growth in long-haul reflects the success of its changed network strategy with partners JetBlue and United and Aer Lingus Regional, which has brought major increase in connecting passengers, particularly at Dublin airport. On Short-Haul it carried 833,00 passengers up 1.7% with a load factor of 81.6% up 3.5 points on an 2.8% reduction in available seat kilometers, its revenue passenger kilometers increased by 1.6%. Ryanair announced it carried 7.96 million passengers in June up 2% (170,000) with a load factor of 84%. In the rolling 12 months to the end of June it carried 79.9 million passengers.
