Ethiopian Airlines growing contribution to Ireland's aviation industry

Ethiopian Airlines (Ethiopian) is the fastest growing and most profitable airline in Africa. In 2014, IATA ranked Ethiopian as the largest airline in Africa in revenue and profit is significantly expanding business with Irish aviation suppliers in aircraft leasing, digital marketing and recruitment.

On 10th May Ethiopian moved it's European Technical Transit hub for 10 weekly flights from Rome Fiumicino to Dublin with a daily Boeing 777 flight from Addis Ababa to Washington DC and three times weekly Boeing 787 Dreamliner flight from Addis Ababa to Toronto.

The airline commenced fifth freedom right services between Addis Abba, Dublin and Los Angeles on 19th June three times weekly using Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, connecting three continents, the addition of Dublin, the airline’s 11th European city and Los Angeles, its 4th point in the Americas.

Did you know 20 Boeing 787 Dreamliners have visited Dublin Airport

Did you know that 19 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft have visited Dublin Airport since the first aircraft N787BX on Boeing Dream Tour back in January 2012. Today Dublin has a three times weekly Boeing 787 Dreamliner service with Ethiopian Airlines operating Addis Abba to Dublin and onwards to Los Angeles.

In Summer 2016 Thomson Airways will launch a new charter programme from Dublin to Cancun and Montego Bay for in-house brands Falcon Holidays and Thomson.

It's anticipated American Airlines and Eithad Airways will commence Boeing 787 Dreamliner services to Dublin in coming years as they refresh their fleets.

Last month Boeing reached another program milestone when it delivered the 300th Dreamliner. According to Boeing , nearly 55 million passengers have flown on 787s across the globe. That’s 294,000 revenue departures, 1.5 million revenue flight hours and 659 million revenue miles flown, saving airlines 2.5 billion pounds of fuel.
