US DOT Filing Reveals planned Aer Lingus UK-US Flights

                                                           An Aer Lingus filing with the US Department of Transportation (DOT) dated 9 December revealed planned UK-Flights from Manchester to Boston, New York and Orlando year-round with a joint application by Aer Lingus and its new subsidiary Aer Lingus (U.K.) Limited with four based Airbus A321LR/330 aircraft. The airline sees a market opportunity in Manchester following the collapse of Thomas Cook Airlines with all routes to be served by one carrier and 70% of the peak summer capacity is anticipated to be operated by Virgin Atlantic.  In the first year of operations it anticipates to operate daily flights to New York (JFK), daily summer flights and four flights per week in the winter to Orlando, and daily summer flights to Boston.  The carrier has applied for US DOT approval to code-share with its IAG sister company British Airways on the routes.  The authority requested by Aer Lingus (U.K.) Limited is consistent with the UK & US

Ryanair Resumes Dublin-Santorini Route For Summer 2021

                                                                  Irish budget carrier Ryanair is  resuming its seasonal Dublin to Santorini Route for Summer 2021 operating twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 1st May to 31st October using Boeing 737-800 aircraft. In Summer 2020 Ryanair launched three new routes to Greece from Dublin to Corfu, Mykonos and Santorini which commenced in July and August due COVID-19 travel restrictions until Greece become 'Green' on the Irish Government's travel list.  For Summer 2021 Corfu and Mykonos are visible on Ryanair's online booking engine but no dates are presently available.  Also Dublin to Thessaloniki is operating twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays from 29 March to 31 October.  Image courtesy of Ryanair  Irish Aviation Research Institute © 7 December 2020 All Rights Reserved.

Ryanair grows its firm Boeing 737 MAX order book to 210 aircraft

                                                                  Boeing  and Ryanair announced the airline is placing a firm order for 75 additional 737 MAX aircraft, increasing its order book to 210 aircraft . Ryanair again selected the 737 8-200, a higher-capacity version of the 737-8, citing the aircraft's additional seats and improved fuel efficiency and environmental performance. Boeing CEO & President Dave Calhoun said "Ryanair will continue to play a leading role in our industry when Europe recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic and air traffic returns to growth across the continent.                                                                    Aer Lingus has announced a new route from Dublin to Santorini for Summer 2021 operating twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays using Airbus A320-200 aircraft from 1st May to 25th September. Aer Lingus Chief Commercial Officer David Shepherd said "We are delighted to announce our new service to Santorini as part of Aer Lingus’ Summer 2021 schedule and really give Irish holidaymakers something to look forward to. With the encouraging developments regarding vaccines and the introduction of improved testing regimes we are gearing up for a busy summer ahead. Qatar Airways activates Boeing 787-9 fleet on cargo-only flights on Dublin route

                                                                  Gulf global connector carrier Qatar Airways has activated its fleet of seven Boeing 787-9 aircraft on scheduled cargo-only flights operating routes to Bangkok, Brussels, Budapest, Dublin, Kuwait, London Heathrow, Maastricht, Mumbai, and Paris CDG.  The carrier is occasionally using non-converted Boeing 777-300(ER)'s to operate cargo-only flights to Dublin.  A7-BHG Boeing 787-9 MSN 64211 operated its first commercial revenue on 9th November QTR8864/5 routing Doha-London Heathrow-Dublin-Doha.  In October 2016 Boeing and Qatar Airways announced an order for 30 787-9 Dreamliners and 10 777-300ERs, valued at $11.7 billion at list prices. The airline was the first to operate the 787-8 in the Middle East.  The 787-9, a stretch of the 787-8, can carries 290 passengers with a range of 7,530 nautical miles (13,950 km) in addition to more cargo capacity (154.4 cubic metres).  On 27 December 2019 the carrier took delivery of the

Cityjet retires RJ85 fleet from service after 22 years in the skies

                                                                   Irish ACMI carrier CityJet said farewell on Monday 2nd November to the last of its Avro RJ85/Bae 146 aircraft which has served the airline for almost 27 years.  The airline announced it's Avro fleet flew 475,000 flights and 580,000 hours since 1993 equivalent to 67 years in the air and a distance approximating to around 1,000 times to the moon. In 2006 the carrier acquired 23 of the ex-Mesaba Airlines RJ85's were acquired from BAE Systems and US-based financial underwriters and securitisation specialist MBIA in an investment that the airline valued at the time at $221 million (approx €198.2 million).  The RJ85's replaced its fleet of 20 BAe 146s citing shared characteristics and enhanced performance, better economics and reduced maintenance costs with four-abreast seating in business class and six-abreast in economy. Delta launches scheduled cargo-only flight between New York JFK and Dublin

                                                                   Delta Airlines has launched a scheduled cargo-only flight between New York JFK and Dublin with effective from 1st November in response to consumer demand. The flight operates  three-times weekly operated by an Airbus A330-300 aircraft, to carry essential pharmaceuticals, vaccines, medical supplies and general cargo. The carrier has approved the DoKaSch Opticooler RAP container for use on its aircraft as part of its cold chain pharma program for the safe transportation of vaccines. The high-end, state-of-the-art climate-control solution offers pharmaceutical and life science companies a controlled and reliable 2-8 degrees Celsius and 15-25 degrees Celsius options, enabling it to be used for Pharma 1 transportation including vaccines, without the need for dry ice. HiSky defers indefinitely launch of new Chisinau-Dublin route

                                                           Moldavian Start-Up carrier HiSky founded by private investors has deferred indefinitely the launch of its new twice weekly from Chisinau to Dublin route. This is a competitive market with two carriers currently operating on the route Air Moldva and FlyOne. The service was originally due to start 11 April and was further deferred to 31 October. HiSky's website currently shows no booking available through to the 31 March 2021. United Airlines Defers launch of new San Francisco - Dublin to Summer 2021

                                                          United Airlines has deferred the launch of its new SFO to Dublin to 27 March 2021 the start of official IATA Summer 2021 season. The route was formally announced on 18th December 2019. The service will initially operate four times weekly increasing to a daily service operated by Boeing 787-8 aircraft.  The route is critical to Ireland's post pandemic recovery linking two of the world's leading centres of technology and innovation Dublin and Silicon Valley. Dublin Airport Managing Director Vincent Harrison said "San Francisco is the global tech centre of the world and many of the companies based there have offices in Ireland. This new route will further grow tourism and trade between Ireland and the US and provide greater choice and flexibility for both business and leisure passengers.                                                                             EI-LRD Airbus A321-253NX MSN 9187 Aer Lingus  which has been in storage at Dublin since 20th April other than for a test flight on 17th September, returned to service on 20th October operatin EIN154/5 to and from London Heathrow. The aircraft operated first North American service since 20th April as EIN137/6 to and from Boston on 21st October. Aer Lingus operates a fleet of 4 Airbus A321N-251NX (EI-LRA, EI-LRB, EI-LRC, EI-LRD) and is due to take delivery of a further four aircraft on lease from Air Lease Corporation for Summer 2021. SONAS Aviation rebrands as ACASS Ireland adds second Challenger 605

The operation combines the resources of Montreal-based ACASS and Irish private aviation operator SONAS Aviation. As an Irish AOC holder it enables free circulation and unfettered traffic rights throughout Europe and the 44 countries covered by EU bilateral agreements including North America.                                                              GainJet Ireland has added another Gulfstream G550 to its growing fleet the aircraft registered EJ-KGRP MSN 5050 formerly OE-IKH was delivered Farnbourgh to Shannon on 15 August.  The aircraft is allocated callsign 'GJI 55H' operating its first revenue service to Nice on 7th September. The aircraft is registered to  KGP Aviation Ltd at Shannon Airport House, Shannon Free Zone, Shannon, Co.                                                 EJ-AWES Bombardier Challenger 605  Shannon based Sonas Aviation has added first aircraft for their Irish AOC with EJ-AWES delivery from Jersey to Shannon on 20 March. The 2014 built Bombardier Challenger 605 registered EJ-AWES formerly T7-YES has  allocated callsign SON001 . On 23rd March the aircraft undertook a series of training flights from Shannon to Belfast International and Cork Airport. The aircraft positioned Shannon Airport to Farnborough via Cork Airport on 27th March. Norwegian Re-Registers second Boeing 737-8 MAX Aircraft stored at Dublin

                                                  SE-RYH Boeing 737-8 MAX Norwegian  Norwegian has re-registered EI-FYH Boeing 737-8 MAX MSN 64992 as SE-RYH on 10th March during storage at Dublin.  The aircraft was positioned from west apron parking area to Aer Lingus Hangar 6 for the re-registration. Norwegian Air Sweden is a subsidiary of Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA operating in Sweden. Norwegian received and AOC from the Swedish Transport Agency and took delivery of its first Swedish registered Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft at Stockholm Arlanda Airport on 21st November 2018. Norwegian Air Sweden has a fleet of 48 Boeing 737-800, 8 Boeing 737-8 MAX (Storage) and 3 Boeing 787-9 aircraft. Laudamotion adds 27th Airbus A320-200

                                                  Laudamotion Airbus A320-200 Laudamotion (Lauda) has taken delivery of its 27th Airbus A320-200 MSN 3613 registered as OE-LMP according to German aviation website Skyliner Aviation , formerly operated by IndiGo Airlines as VT-WAH. The aircraft was delivered on 13-14th March Hyderabad-Muscat International-Cairo to its new home base in Vienna. According to Planespotters the aircraft is leased is from GECAS. Norwegian Re-Registers first Boeing 737-8 MAX Aircraft stored at Dublin

                                                  EI-FYE Boeing 737-8 MAX  Norwegian Air Shuttle has completed an intra-group transfer from Norwegian Air International to Norwegian Air Sweden, this week of two Boeing 737 MAX 8 Aircraft in storage at Dublin Airport since the global fleet grounding in March 2019. Skyliner Aviation reports EI-FYC Boeing 737-8 MAX MSN 42825 was re-registered at Dublin 4th March as SE-RYL to Norwegian Air Sweden and its sistership EI-FYH to be re-registered as SE-RYF on 5th March. According to reader David Hennigan as of Saturday 7th March was still registered as EI-FYH. Norwegian Air Sweden is a subsidiary of Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA operating in Sweden. Laudamotion adds 26th Airbus A320-200

                                                  Laudamotion Airbus A320-200 Laudamotion (Lauda) has taken delivery of its 25th Airbus A320-200 MSN 4603 registered as OE-LMG according to website Skyliner Aviation, formerly operated by IndiGo Airlines as VT-IYA. The aircraft was delivered on 5-6th March routing Soekarno–Hatta International-Nagpur Airport-Dubai World Centre to its new home base in Vienna. According to Planespotters.net database aircraft is leased is from Orix Aviation. Skyliner reports Laudamotion (Lauda) is due take delivery of a further four A320s formerly operated by Air Asia, Flynas and Frontier Airlines. Aer Lingus to exploit Airbus A321LR Platform North Atlantic growth opportunities

                                                  EI-LRA Airbus A321LR image courtesy of Airbus  Irish carrier Aer Lingus part of International Airlines Group (IAG) plans to exploit Airbus A321LR North Atlantic growth opportunities, as outlined in IAG Full Year Results 2019 released on Friday 29 February during investor call.  The strategy was further enforced with the release of IAG 2019 Annual Report entitled "Leading Sustainable Aviation". International Airlines Group (IAG) CEO Willie Walsh in 2019 Annual Report described the introduction of the long-range version of the Airbus A321 as "A Game-Changer", adding "It allows Aer Lingus to target cities on the eastern side of North America where there is unlikely to be demand for a direct service with a larger aircraft" in reference to A330 platform. United Airlines resumes Washington Dulles - Dublin route

                                                United Airlines Boeing 757-200 United Airlines has resumed operations on the Washington Dulles to Dublin route effective from 22 February operating four times weekly with Boeing 757-200 equipment. The aircraft N14118 Boeing 757-224 MSN 27560 positioned Newark to Washington Dulles as UAL2755 to operate UAL126 to Dublin. On 3rd December the carrier announced an order to purchase 50 new Airbus A321XLR aircraft, enabling the carrier to begin replacing and retiring its existing fleet of Boeing 757-200 aircraft and further meet the airline's operational needs by pairing the optimal aircraft with select transatlantic routes. United expects to introduce the A321XLR into international service in 2024, will also allow United to explore serving additional destinations in Europe from its East Coast Newark/New York and Washington Dulles hubs.                                                   EI-IIN Credit Irish Business Aviation Association  Airlink Airways Ltd trading as Private Sky Ireland has added a Bombardier Global 5000 to its VIP & Executive Charter Fleet. The aircraft MSN 9445 registered EI-IIN callsign 'HYR95V' formerly VP-CKM was delivered Guernsey to Shannon on 26th February. Today (Saturday 29 February) the aircraft departed Shannon to its new Moscow Vnukovo base. Private Sky Director David Scully said "This Global 5000 addition to the AOC is an important & exciting step for us. The addition of this aircraft provides our customers with the ultimate long-range capability. It will be strategically located to serve customers in Eastern as well as Western Europe".
